Making Waves with Subsea Hydraulics |
|
|
Murphy’s Waves Ltd, world leaders in “making waves” in leisure pools have again commissioned Air Power & Hydraulics for the hydraulic system which produces the huge waves enjoyed by so many of today’s bathers and swimmers.
This wave-making machine is the latest in a series for a number of pools all over the world and again APH have customised their standard catalogue power units and cylinders; they also specified the installation comprising a complex network of steel pipe and connecting hoses.
The machine is based on gates opening under gravity and displacing water. Ian Paterson, APH Managing Director describes the forces involved: “The cylinders used are based on our 52 series CEPAC Subsea Cylinder design. The cylinders open ten gates in one second to give a rush of 300 tons of water and generate the waves; then the hydraulic system slams the gates closed in two seconds holding back the huge body of water. The accumulator unit is charged up and the whole process can begin again.”
And happy shouts can be heard everywhere |
